Charles Adams Cemetery

  • LOCATION: Start in Mt. Vernon, KY at the intersection of Route #150 and Route #25. Take #25 southward .95 mile to road on left. Turn left and go 200′ to road on right. Turn right and go .7 mile to end of road and park car. The cemetery is behind the house at the end of the road. The graves are about 1000′ downhill and north of the house. The field stone lie in a “Y” in the hillside. They are not easy to see from a distance.

  • Allen and Moore Cemetery LOCATION: Start in Lincoln County, KY just west of the Rockcastle County Line. At the intersection of Route #150 and Copper Creek Road. Take Copper Creek Road 1.8 miles to farm field road on left. Ask permission at house on right to go in the cemetery. You will probably need to ask someone to go along to help locate the cemetery. The cemetery is almost one mile from the paved road. A 4-wheel drive vehicle is needed to get there or you must walk.

Abney Macedonia Cemetery LOCATION: On County Route #1617 .1 mile north of intersection of routes #1517 and #1787. On the west (left) side of road stands the Macedonia Baptist Church. The Macedonia Baptist Church is the location of two separate cemeteries. They are both listed here because of the church location. The cemeteries are listed separately on two websites to show the distinction between the two. The Abney Memorial Garden is in front of the church and the second is on the south side of the road. Both are fenced and well tended

  • John Adams Cemetery Rockcastle LOCATION: Start at the intersection of Route #1004 and Maple Grove Road, take Maple Grove Road 1.9 miles to dirt road on right, turn right, take dirt road 1.0 mile, park. The cemetery is on the left above the big spring near a big, old cedar tree. It is necessary to have a high off the ground 4 wheel drive vehicle. The dirt road is in BAD condition.

  • LOCATION: Start at corner of Main and Richmond Streets in Mt. Vernon, KY. Go north on Richmond Street (State Road #25) .6 mile (immediately past Daily Street). Turn east on the road that parallels Town Branch. Follow that narrow road about .3 mile. Leave your car and cross the Town Branch on the log. Proceed across the bramble patch bearing slightly west to the big cedar tree that has vinca minor plants at its base. This was once a well-tended cemetery but it is now overgrown.

Arnold Grubb Cemetery

  • Arnold Grubb Cemetery LOCATION: Start in Livingston, KY at the intersection of Route #490 and Route #25. Go northward on #25 3.2 miles. Park car on side of the road. The cemetery is on a bluff on the left side of #25. TAKE CARE. Some of the graves have sunk. They are covered with thick growth of vinca minor. You could break an ankle if not careful.
  • GPS Location:
  • Number Of Field Stone Markers:  Approximately 130 graves either unmarked or marked with field stone markers. There may be as many as 150 graves here.
  • Linda Mason Foster contributed the following information regarding those in unmarked graves. Solomon Mason Jr., Alma Ruth McIntosh and Ruby Mason info below. In the unmarked grave next to Solomon Mason (Jr.) is the leg of his wife Martha Owens Mason. She had to have her leg removed and wanted it buried next to her husband. However, when Martha died, she was buried at Pine Hill Cemetery. Additional info regarding Alma Ruth McIntosh: born in Owsley or Breathitt County KY. Cause of death “Black Death” (diphtheria?) Her parents died prior to her death and burial location is not known.
