Old Newcomb Cemetery

  • LOCATION: Start at intersection of Route #150 and Negro Creek Road. Go 2.4 miles on Negro Creek Road and park car. The cemetery is almost a mile from the road. If you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle and a guide you can follow the remains of an old road. It goes thru the gap between two low hills and then up a long hill to a clearing at the top.
  • NOTE: Nelson Messer was great-grandfather to Colson Stevens. Messer children were Edward, Frank and Myrtle Harp Mullins. Lydia Bingham was grandmother to Colson Stevens and the last person buried in this cemetery. The three Newcomb children buried here were the first to be buried in this cemetery and parents were Jim and Catherine Newcomb. There were two other Newcomb children Everett and Byrd. Many unmarked graves, only one bought stone, others are wider slabs or field stones.
